the quiet of space
As a printmaker, I use a wide variety of etching, woodcut, monotype, and screen printing processes as well as stitching and encaustic. I then combine these processes to create a monoprint or mixed media piece. I find that layers offer more possibilities for storytelling by embedding my thoughts and my ideas. Layers become windows to invite the viewer in.
In this work of dry point intaglio etchings, the focus has been on deconstructing familiarity from form by placing identifiable images, like a chair or a ladder, within each abstract piece. My ambition is to bring forward ideas that bridge the past with contemporary life. The etching is abstract, the stitching is a recognizable item and the encaustic finish acts as my window.
All are monotypes with red stitching and an encaustic finish. 4”x4” mounted on ¾ cradle.
